Steve's San Francisco Community Power worked collaboratively with other environmental nonprofits and community activists to help create the City’s first Electricity Resource Plan, and close the Hunters Point Power Plant.

Eventually the family landed in Palo Alto in 1974, where Steve attended Gunn Senior High School. His parents and siblings live in the Bay Area; his brother, Brion, and his family on Potrero Hill. In 1983 Steve worked on a kibbutz in Northern Israel, harvesting grapefruits. Over the years he's traveled widely in Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. Steve married Debbie Findling in 1999. The couple has a nine-year-old daughter, Sara, and a dog, Lucky. Steve regularly bicycles, and attends classes at Centered Body Pilates, on Potrero Hill. |

Born near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on October 27, 1960, Steve is the eldest son of a family of three girls and two boys. His mother, Harriet, is a retired child care provider, and his father, Robert, is a retired aerospace engineer. Steve and his family moved around California, following the boom and bust cycles of the aerospace industry, and his father's quest for the next job. By the time he was 14, Steve had lived in San Diego, West Covina and Palos Verdes.
